What Causes Andropause?

The leading cause of andropause is low testosterone. This hormone is responsible for typical male characteristics such as facial and body hair, strong muscles, deep voice, competitiveness, libido, etc. As men age, their testes produce less testosterone, which is a part of the natural aging process.

When it comes to psychological aspects of andropause, the relation with depression is far from clear. There are minor depressive symptoms associated with andropause, but these are not considered pathological.
